M(H)AOL DM:AM
Dublin, Belfast and London-based trio M(h)aol have revealed their new slice of post-punk in the form of ‘DM:AM’. It’s a punchy feminist anthem defined by the intense fuzz emanating from the guitars and the persistent clicking rhythm of the drum kit. The track is propelled by its lyrics, which guide us towards a noisy, multi-layered musical conclusion. “This song is about men DM’ing women online and then getting aggressive when they don’t get the response they want,” the band explains. “They quickly turn to insults about the women, and then once the woman says she’ll expose what they’ve done, she gets a laundry list of reasons why he behaves like this and how much he has to lose, which is meant to make the women feel sorry for them.” M(h)aol are gearing up to drop their album, Something Soft, on May 16th, 2025, via Merge Records. -Dan Peeke
